Dear families, Where has the term gone? Firstly, the 3 /4 students and parents need to be congratulated for their flexibility, resilience and hard work during the 5 day lock down that happened early in term 1. The students were able to return to school and continue their educational journey with little fuss.   A big shout out to Miss Rowe who has successfully completed her first term of teaching. A tough task considering the climate we are currently living in. She has been an excellent support to her students and colleagues. Well done Miss Rowe!   Term One has seen the commencement of the 3/4 Sport program. The students have adapted well to their new teams and competition has been fierce. The students will continue to focus on the following sports: Basketball, Kanga Cricket, Bat Tennis and Volleyball in Term 2. Two weekly sports awards have been awarded each Monday during the school assembly. Congratulations to those winners so far.    Throughout the Literacy block (Reading and Writing) in Term 1, the students have continued to work hard on a number of different areas. In Writing, the students have focused on Recounts and Persuasive Writing. It has been great to see the students listen, watch and learn throughout the mini lessons and then implement the class focus into their writing. There has been a huge focus on handwriting. It is obvious that there is a lot more work required. Please continue to support your child’s teacher by reinforcing the correct pencil grip, letter formation and consistency in letter size.   In Reading, your child has focused on identifying fiction and non-fiction texts and their features as well as summarising. They have utilized the school library where they have been able to borrow 4 books fortnightly.

Your child has also been placed in a small reading groups, where specific learning goals have been established depending on the group’s specific needs.

In Mathematics, the students have been working hard on developing their place value knowledge and both mental and written addition strategies. Throughout the unit, students focused on identifying odd and even numbers, renaming numbers and placing numbers on a number line.
Students have also used the ‘Think Mentals’ program to practice effective and efficient mental addition strategies as well as explored a range of written strategies and used these to solve problems.

It was wonderful to meet with you face to face during Parent-Teacher Interviews. Thank you for taking the time to fill in the pre-interview form.
