During Term 2, Foundation students will begin by exploring how to ask and respond to questions about their feelings, using the phrase ā€œCome stai?ā€ (How are you?). Students will be supported through teacher modelling, visual prompts, and engaging songs to help them learn appropriate responses. The focus will then shift to the topic ā€œMia Famigliaā€ (My Family). Students will listen to the story ā€œIl Pappagalloā€ (The Parrot), which introduces the names of family members in Italian. Through a combination of songs, games, and interactive activities, students will build their vocabulary and confidence in naming family members. Looking forward to a fantastico Term 2!

In Term 2, Grade 1 students will explore the topic Succhi di Frutta (Fruit Juices). They will learn the Italian names for different fruits and begin using simple Italian to talk about what they like and don’t like. Learning will be fun and interactive, with songs, games, and class discussions helping students build confidence with new words and phrases. Students will also listen to an engaging story about animals ordering juice, using clues to help them understand what is happening. To consolidate their learning, students will create their own juice menu, choosing and labelling fruit juice flavours using the Italian vocabulary they have learnt. With the help of the story La Macchinetta Rossa (The Little Red Car), students will go on an adventure to discover some of Italy’s most famous landmarks. They will also enjoy short videos to learn fun facts about Italy — including the colours of the Italian flag, where Italy is on the map, and some things Italy is well known for, such as its delicious food and amazing art. To finish the year, students will take part in festive Italian Christmas crafts and learn about special Italian Christmas traditions.

In Term Four, Grade 1 students will explore the theme Giochiamo! (ā€œLet’s play!ā€) as they learn Italian words and phrases through games, songs, and movement activities. Students will learn how to name and talk about their favourite games, follow simple instructions in Italian, and use phrases for taking turns and playing together. They will also discover some traditional Italian playground games and even create their own game using Italian words. The focus is on having fun while developing confidence in speaking and understanding Italian! To finish the year, students will take part in festive Italian Christmas crafts and learn about special Italian Christmas traditions.

During Term 2 in Italian class, Foundation students will be learning about ā€˜La Famiglia’ (The Family). Students will listen to a story ā€˜Aiuto un Topo’ where they will learn the names of family members and how to say them in Italian, for example: la mamma, (mum) il papa`(dad). They will then apply this knowledge to various activities about their own family. Students will continue to participate in many songs and games to continue learning greetings, numbers and colours. Looking forward to a fun term learning lots of new Italian!

During Term 2 Grade 1 students will focus on the topic ā€˜Mia Famiglia’ (My Family) in Italian class. Bentornati! (Welcome back!) to Term 4! In Term 4, the focus for the Foundation students will be to explore the country ā€Ņµ³Ł²¹±ō¾±²¹ā€™. Through the adventures of the story, ā€˜La Macchinetta Rossa’ (The Little Red Car) students will learn about some of the most famous landmarks that are found in Italy. Students will watch short videos to learn some facts about Italy such as, the colours of the flag, where Italy is located and some of the things that Italy is famous for, for example, food and art. Students will conclude the term with some fun craft Italian Christmas activities and will learn about Italian Christmas traditions.

Working in small groups, students will work in teams to design their own Italian themed board game. They will have to name it, create instructions and rules for the games and aim to make it engaging and fun! Students will be guided and supported throughout the task as they will need to include Italian vocabulary and phrases on their game, for example ā€˜Avanti due passe’ (Go forward two spaces). Students will be given the opportunity to share their games and play them in class once they are finished. Grade 5/6 students will conclude the term with some fun craft Italian Christmas activities and will learn about Italian Christmas traditions.

In Term 3, Foundation Students will be learning about ā€˜Gli Animali dellla fattoria’ (Farm Animals). They will listen to a story in Italian, ā€˜La Gallinella Rossaā€ (The Little Red Hen) where they will learn the names of farm animals in Italian. Students will learn an Italian dance ā€˜Il Ballo del Qua Qua’ (The Chicken Dance) and an Italian song (ā€˜C’e` la luna piena), which will further consolidate their learning of farm animals. Through this topic they will continue to build on their knowledge of colours and numbers in Italian. Looking forward to a fun term in Italian class! Looking forward to a fantastico Term 3!

Students will participate in a group task where they will watch an episode of ā€˜Coffee Break – Italian to Go’ Students will then be required to make their own episode, using vocabulary and phrases learnt in class about what games and sports they like to play and watch. During Term 2, Foundation students will continue to be immersed with the Italian language! Students will commence with exploring how to ask and to respond to questions about how they are feeling in Italian using the question Come Stai? (How are you?) Ā Students will be supported with teacher modelled language, use visual cues and listen to songs to learn the responses. Students will then move onto the topic ā€˜Mia Famiglia’ (My Family) where students will listen to ā€˜Il Pappagallo’ (The Parrot) which is a story introducing names of family members in Italian. Together with listening to songs and playing games students will learn the names of members in their family. Looking forward to a fun term learning Italian with the Foundation students. The focus for this term will be more on the Italian culture and learning about some of Italy’s most famous people. People such as Giuseppe Arcimboldo and Leonardo DaVinci will be explored as a whole class. Students will be given short, written texts about the famous artists in Italian and will use bilingual dictionaries, online translators to decode the meaning of the text. Students will then choose a famous Italian of their choice to research and write a short description using teacher modelled sentences. Ciao e Benvenuti! (Hello and Welcome!) to learning Italiano at Āé¶¹¹ū¶³ Primary School! In Term 1, Foundation students will be introduced to the Italian language and culture by participating in weekly Italian classes. Through stories, games and songs students will be learning how to say and respond to simple greetings and how to introduce themselves in Italian. Students will also be learning the numbers 1-10 and how to say the colours in Italian.
