In Performing Arts lessons throughout Term Two, Foundation students will be introduced to the topic of Dance. They will explore why we dance, with a focus on the importance of dance for health and fitness. Students will also learn about different dance cultures and practices, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dance and its role in community. They will discover a range of dance styles and types by exploring what they like about different types of dances and why. Students will focus on animals found on farms, creating dance moves and routines based on their chosen animals, and perform to express ideas with music.

In Performing Arts lessons throughout Term Two, Year 1 and Year 2 students will focus on the topic of Music. They will explore the elements of music and develop a strong understanding of singing and songs. This will include exploring different genres of music and songs from around the world, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music. They will explore how to play instruments and will be assessed on listening and creating steady beats.

In Performing Arts lessons throughout Term Two, Year 3 and Year 4 students will focus on the topic of Music. They will further develop their skills with instruments and create sounds and beats. Students will explore their knowledge and understanding of different eras of music, as well as the importance of storytelling in music. This will be linked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of creating music and sounds, connecting them to story creation. Students will be placed into groups and create a 4-beat rhythm using body percussion and instruments.

In Term 4, Year 5 students will learn about the Performing Arts subject of Media Arts. They will develop and explore their understanding of the diversity of Media Arts. Through this, they will plan and pitch creative and unique podcast ideas. Throughout the term, they will produce their own podcasts about a chosen subject and record them. They will also explore what makes effective collaboration through planning and pitching ideas to each other.

Year 6:
This term, Year 6 students will develop their knowledge of the Performing Arts subject of Media Arts. They will learn about the breadth and importance of Media Arts and how to use it for persuasion and promotion. From this, they will create a persuasive promotional video explaining why children their age should attend Âé¶¹¹û¶³ Primary School. This will provide opportunities to learn about the editing process, camera angles, and filming techniques.

For Term 1, the Foundation students will be exploring the Performing Arts subject of Music.  They will discover sounds created from instruments and explore and listen to different types of music. They will identify what types of sounds and music they enjoy and why, through exploring pitch and rhyming patterns. Additionally, they will collaborate and explore singing and use imagination skills to create music.

The Year 1 and Year 2 students will be focusing on the Performing Arts subject of Drama. Throughout Term 1, students will be given opportunities to explore their favourite stories and break down and understand characters and settings through play. They will be linking the elements of Drama to create and collaborate their own unique fairy tale story.

In Term 1, the Grade 3 and Grade 4 students will be focusing on the Performing Arts subject of Drama. This term will focus on students developing and understanding drama elements and the importance of each for storytelling. They will be creating a character from scratch and transforming this character into a puppet. These puppets will then be used in short performances put on by the Grade 3 and Grade 4 students.

In Term 1, the Year 5 students will begin to understand the elements of drama. They will develop their understanding of the power of voice, character, settings and movement to help convey stories and characters. Students will be showcased what drama looks like around the world, expanding their knowledge and understandings of diverse drama practices, forms and styles. They will be researching myths and legends, and rehearsing, planning and performing a story that they have created as a group.

Year 6:
This Term, the Year 6 students will be deepening their understandings of music. They will be focusing on understanding how elements such as pitch, rhythm and tempo are used and the importance of each element. In Term 1, Year 6 students will be rehearsing, learning and creating raps as well as creating unconventional instruments out of various materials. The Year 6 students will also be given opportunities to practice and play instruments as well as use technologies to create and explore sounds.

This term, Foundation students are focusing on the Performing Arts subject of Dance! This will involve learning about the elements of dance – body, energy, time, space and action.  We will be looking at how and why dancing uses these elements and the importance of dance. Traditions and cultural dancing will also be explored, things like the Hula, Haka and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancing ceremonies will be discussed and explored. The Foundation students will also be focusing on marine animals and how they move and explore dance through these animals and movements.

In term four, Year One students will be learning, discovering and focusing on the Performing Arts subject of Dance! Through learning the elements of dance – body, time, energy, action and space students will explore why we dance, why it is important and the traditions and cultures around dance. Students in Year One will also be exploring and learning an Alphabet Dance. This involves students creating a dance move for each letter, we then will create certain dance moves around certain letters.

This term, Year Two students will be learning about the Performing Arts subject of Dance! Within this term, students will explore the elements around dance – body, time, space, action and energy. Through exploring these elements, students will create a dance around the alphabet/letters. Each letter will have its own unique dance move, and we will begin to create dances around certain words and letters. We will also be focusing on the importance of dance within cultures.

In Term Four, Year Three students will be focusing on and exploring the Performing Arts subject of Dance! Students will develop their knowledge and understandings of the elements of dance – body, time, space, action and energy. Through these explorations we will be discussing the importance of dance, especially in certain cultures. Students will be working towards a Dance Battle, involving certain sports actions and turning these action/poses into dance moves which will eventually lead into a class ‘Dance-off Battle!’

This term, Year Four students are going to be focusing on the Performing Arts subject of Dance! The Year Fours will be exploring and expanding their knowledge of the elements of dance – energy, action, space, time and body. Through these elements we will explore the importance of dance, especially in certain cultures and traditions. This term will also include students picking certain sports poses/actions and turning them into dance moves. This will lead into a class ‘Dance-off Battle!’ within each grade four class!

In Term Four, Year Five students will be learning about the Performing Arts subject of Media Arts! They will develop and explore their understandings on the diverseness of Media Arts. Through this, they will be planning and pitching creative and unique podcast ideas. Throughout the term, they will produce their own podcasts about a chosen subject and record it.  They will be exploring how and what makes great collaboration, through planning and pitching ideas to each other.

Year 6:
This term, Year Six students will be developing their knowledge around the Performing Arts subject of Media Arts! They will learn about the vastness of Media Arts, the importance of Media Arts and how to utilize it for persuasion and promotion. From this, they will be creating a persuasive promotional video for why children their age should come to Âé¶¹¹û¶³ Primary School. This will give them opportunities to learn about the editing process, camera angles and filming techniques.

In Term 3, the Foundation students will begin to discover elements of Music. They will begin to understand key elements of music and utilise these to help describe music, where they listen to it and identify what type of music they enjoy and why. Through instruments and singing, students will explore creating music to communicate ideas and express emotions. They will develop skill with pitch awareness and respond to simple beats and rhythm patterns.

In Term 3, the Grade One students will be focusing on the performing element of Music. Students will delve into where they hear music, how different environments use music and begin to explore and develop an understanding of musical elements through instruments. They will use these elements like rhythm and pitch to improvise and compose music. They will also explore and understand music in different cultures and develop and compose sound stories. 

In Term 3, the Grade Two students will be focusing on the performing element of Music. Students will delve into where they hear music, how different environments use music and begin to explore and develop an understanding of musical elements through instruments and voice. They will use these elements like rhythm and pitch to improvise and compose music. They will also explore and understand music in different cultures and develop and compose sound stories. 

In Term 3, the Grade Three and Four students will be focusing on the elements of Music.  The students will be performing, arranging, listening to and creating different types of music through instruments and voice.  Students will be given opportunities both collaboratively and independently to explore musical elements such as, pitch, tempo, texture, dynamics and rhythm.  They will explore and learn about music within their community as well as different forms of music from various cultures around the world.

In Term 3, the Grade Five and Six students are going to be learning and discovering the elements of Drama. Students will develop their understanding of the power of character, voice and settings to tell stories. They will explore different dramatic cultural performances, understand key terminology like blocking and monologues and develop their talents in improvisation!  Students will use key questioning to understand characters and how to connect with and portray them to audiences.

They will explore ideas, characters and settings in different images and multi-modal texts. Students will use a range of media technologies to capture images that will be used to create a photo story to communicate an idea to the audience. They will have opportunities to use editing software for their images/sounds. Students will have opportunities to respond to a variety of media artwork using description.

In Term 2, the Grade One students will be exploring Media Arts. They will use different media technologies to capture images of landscapes around the school and use certain applications to edit these images with a focus on lighting and contrast. Students will have opportunities to work cooperatively with their peers to create a news video, combining skills learned in Drama. They will not only learn about ‘green screens’ and how we can use this to further engage an audience, but they will be using a green screen during our sessions. Students will also have opportunities to provide feedback to their peers.

In Term 2, the Grade Two students will be exploring Media Arts. Students will investigate advertisements, their purpose as well as the persuasive devises used. This will then lead to them creating their own advertisement using different pieces of technology.

In Term 2, the Grade Five and Six students will discover the key elements of Dance by continuing to make and respond to dance both independently and collaboratively with peers. Students will further develop their awareness of the body and actions through safe dance practice. As they uncover the different elements as artists and audiences, students will advance their knowledge of how dance can communicate characteristics from different social, historical and cultural contexts and discuss how this influences their dance making.

They will use their imaginations to create improvisation plays that they will rehearse and present to their peers. Students will explore feelings through stories and puppetry and translate this to their own dramatic play.

In Term 1, The Grade One students will be exploring the Elements of Drama. They will focus on identifying the features of drama and role play and explore the role that dramatic action and improvisation has on both the audience and actors. This will be done using narrative structures and texts that they are familiar with. Students will then be provided with opportunities to explore drama using their voice and movement along with time to rehearse and present plays. They will study different plays and learn to identify why people make and perform drama.

In Term 1, The Grade Two students will be exploring the Elements of Drama. They will have opportunities to complete various activities using musical instruments whilst engaging in more complex aspects of, pitch, rhythm, tempo, texture, dynamics and expression, form and structure. Students will be using iPads, cameras and computers throughout the unit, exploring different computer programs. The images that they take will be used to design a magazine cover, which will be teacher scaffolded. Students will have opportunities to respond to a range of media artwork, including those from people in their local area

In Term 4, the Grade Two students will be focusing on Media Technologies. They will create and present a range of media artwork to communicate an idea with a selected audience. Students will use different technologies to capture and edit images. This will allow them to experiment with a variety of ideas and to develop characters and settings with the use of technologies. Students will be using iPads, cameras and computers throughout the unit, exploring different computer programs. The images that they take will be used to design a magazine cover. Students will have opportunities to respond to a range of media artwork, including those from people in their local area.

In Term 4, the Grades Three and Four students will be basing their Performing Arts studies around the theme of Travel. The students will engage in an introduction to Blues music and its cultural origins, and they will attempt to reproduce some of their own Blues music. They will learn and use choreography skills to create their own dance, engage and develop skills in improvisation and script writing, and explore media and animation through designing and making a phenakistoscope to demonstrate continuous movement in motion and film. To complete the year, we will explore how music has changed throughout the last 100 years.

In Term 4, the Grade Five and Six students will be focusing on Media Arts and its elements. They will explore a variety of different types of media technologies such as audio recording and filming. Students will work collaboratively to plan, produce and present a podcast as a piece of media artwork, ensuring it is created for a specific audience and purpose. They will compare different types of media artworks from different social, cultural and historical contexts. Students will have the opportunity to continue to develop their media technology skills through selecting and creating a short film of their choice.

In Term 3, the Foundation students will be focusing on Dance. They will explore safe dance movements and dance ideas using a range of locomotor and non-locomotor movements. Students will use the topic of emotions to create simple and expressive movements that communicate ideas to an audience. They will be provided with opportunities to respond to different dance styles and techniques, expressing things that they enjoyed. Students will follow choreographed dance sequences and routines both individually and as a group. They will also explore the connection between music and dance and how certain types of music can influence a style of dance.

In Term 3, the Grade One students will be focusing on Dance. They will participate in safe dance practices and learn to move different parts of their body in rhythm with the music. Students will use a range of choreographic devices to create their own dance sequences, inspired by the ocean, by making decisions about how a dance will begin and end. They will explore dance in the local community including different cultural dances. Students will follow set dance routines, ensuring they are using both technical and expressive skills such as combining movement with the use of props. Students will be provided with opportunities to respond to dance, expressing what they enjoy and why.

In Term 3, the Grade One students will be focusing on Dance. They will participate in safe dance practices and learn to move different parts of their body in rhythm with the music. In Term 3 the Grade Three and Four students will be basing their Performing Arts studies around the theme of Recycling. We will cover Music, Dance, Drama and Media over the term. Activities the students will be engaged in will include making a musical band using recycled materials for instruments, choreographing dances of rubbish shapes being recycled, recycling fairy stories into ‘new/recycled’ stories and acting them out with paper bag puppets and finally, producing an advertising poster about their recycled fairy story. Please start collecting recycled materials for your child to use during the term please! eg. clean, plastic, milk/cream/other containers are perfect for making shakers, cardboard cylinders (inserts from glad wrap, alfoil) etc.

In Term 3, the Grade Five and Six students will be focusing on Dance. They will explore the elements of dance as well as the different styles of dance from different cultures. Students will investigate how characters and emotions are portrayed in dance using movement and different choreographic devices. Using technical and expressive skills, they will create and rehearse dance sequences as well as follow set routines. Students will have opportunities to explain how the elements of dance communicate ideas and the relationship between music and dance. They will also respond to dance, expressing their feelings and thoughts and provide justification for this.

In Term Two, Grade three students invented a percussion score, composed pieces of music, looked at tempo and ostinatos in music and learned about the Waltz time signature. They created and performed their own dances using the Waltz time signature. Students did some acting and miming related to nutrition and in Media they cropped photos and assembled a photo essay centred around food.

In Term 2, the Grade Five and Six students will be exploring different elements of Drama. They will delve into dramatic action and empathy using play building and scripted dramas. With a selected piece of poetry, students will analyse plots, characters, settings and themes. They will use body language and gestures to portray emotions and dramatise scenes. Students will deepen their knowledge of improvisation and role play by using techniques that create mood and atmosphere. They will rehearse and present a variety of play types with a strong focus on smooth transitions between scenes as well as performance style and design elements used to engage the audience. Students will be provided with ample opportunities to seek and provide feedback to their peers.

Students will use a range of instruments such as egg shakers and rhythm sticks to explore ways of creating and using sound. They will have ample opportunities to rehearse and perform songs to their peers and compose pieces of music using instruments and body percussion.

Students will use rhyme to deepen their understanding of rhythm and pitch. They will explore the importance of music and storytelling in the Indigenous culture as well as their customs. Students will use a range of musical instruments such as bongo drums, maracas as well as the glockenspiel and xylophone, to portray a scene. They will explore how sound effects can be used to create or set a mood.
