2016 Staff Excellence Awards Announced

Kent State Stark Recognizes Outstanding Employees

On Friday, April 22, 2016, Âé¶¹¹û¶³ at Stark faculty and staff gathered in the Campus Center to recognize the 2016 Staff Excellence Award recipients.

Several weeks prior to the ceremony, the campus community was asked to nominate a staff member or administrator with a written recommendation supporting the person they thought deserved to be recognized.

Criteria for nominations included:

  • Gives 100% effort
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude
  • Shows a strong commitment to their job and to Âé¶¹¹û¶³
  • Continuously helps others
  • Is dependable, conscientious and caring
  • Exceeds job and workload demands
  • Works easily with people; collegial
  • Motivates others

A committee of faculty, staff and administrators selected the recipients from the many nominations.

On May 10, 2025, Âé¶¹¹û¶³ at Stark proudly hosted its 52nd Spring Commencement Ceremony at the campus’s Conference Center, celebrating the academic achievements of students who earned associate and bachelor’s degrees. The event marked a pivotal milestone in the lives of 104 graduates and served as a testament to their perseverance, dedication and academic excellence.

After nearly four decades at Âé¶¹¹û¶³, Denise A. Seachrist, Ph.D., is retiring from her role as dean and chief administrative officer of Âé¶¹¹û¶³ at Stark and Âé¶¹¹û¶³ at Salem. Her retirement on June 30, 2025, marks the conclusion of a career dedicated to education, community and the arts.

Reflecting on her time at Kent State, Seachrist said, “Kent State has been more than a workplace — it’s been home. The people here have shaped my career, my life and my sense of purpose. I will always carry that with me.â€

This weekend marks a significant milestone for Âé¶¹¹û¶³â€™s Regional Campus system as more than 1,700 graduates are honored in commencement ceremonies across Northeast Ohio. On campuses spanning from Lake Erie to the Ohio River, these celebrations highlight the academic achievements and work readiness of its learners.
