Science & Nursing Building Opening Soon

The long-awaited Science & Nursing Building will soon be a reality for �鶹�� at Stark’s community.

The construction of the 41,140-square-foot Science & Nursing Building and renovation of 5,250 square feet of Main Hall’s East Wing has progressed smoothly and is on track for opening in fall 2015.

The campus’s seventh major building will support the science programs and house teaching and research laboratories for biology, physics, geology and nursing. The Science & Nursing Building also will include a student cyber lounge, faculty offices and state-of-the-art general and computer classrooms. The Main Hall renovation will convert the existing biology laboratories and prep/storage areas to accommodate the chemistry program.

The exterior of the building has taken shape and the interior is nearly complete. Spring weather will unveil many of the environmentally friendly design elements, such as the green roof, rain gardens and bioswales, which will contribute to the structure’s LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification.

Kent State Stark Celebrates the Class of 2025 at Commencement Ceremony

On May 10, 2025, �鶹�� at Stark proudly hosted its 52nd Spring Commencement Ceremony at the campus’s Conference Center, celebrating the academic achievements of students who earned associate and bachelor’s degrees. The event marked a pivotal milestone in the lives of 104 graduates and served as a testament to their perseverance, dedication and academic excellence.

Dean Denise A. Seachrist Retires after 37 Years at �鶹��

After nearly four decades at �鶹��, Denise A. Seachrist, Ph.D., is retiring from her role as dean and chief administrative officer of �鶹�� at Stark and �鶹�� at Salem. Her retirement on June 30, 2025, marks the conclusion of a career dedicated to education, community and the arts.

Reflecting on her time at Kent State, Seachrist said, “Kent State has been more than a workplace — it’s been home. The people here have shaped my career, my life and my sense of purpose. I will always carry that with me.”

This weekend marks a significant milestone for �鶹��’s Regional Campus system as more than 1,700 graduates are honored in commencement ceremonies across Northeast Ohio. On campuses spanning from Lake Erie to the Ohio River, these celebrations highlight the academic achievements and work readiness of its learners.
