In Literacy students will be:
- Engaging in daily fluency reading to improve expression, rate and accuracy of reading.
- Engaging in daily phonological exposure to explore a variety of spelling rules and patterns.
- Learning to use letter sound knowledge to blend letter sounds together to read words and sentences.
- Introduced to the core knowledge units of the First Australians, Australia and its Neighbours, and Celebrations of Different Cultures where students will answer a range of literal, inferential and evaluative questions to build their background knowledge.
- Participating in daily formal handwriting sessions learning how to form letters correctly and how to correctly hold a pencil.
- Engaging in genre writing, exploring the text structure and features of a narrative text.
- Completing sentence stems starting with a subordinating conjunction to form a complex sentence.Â
- Combining and punctuating sentences using subordinating conjunctions.
- Identifying appositives in sentences and match appositives to nouns and noun phrases.
- Combining two sentences and match appositives to nouns and noun phrases.
In Mathematics students will be:
- Using the CUBES strategy to solve multiplication and division word problems.
- Representing multiplication and division problems with bar models.
- Creating multiplication and division number sentences from word problems
- Recognising angles as a measurement of turn.
- Identifying right angles.
- Reading analogue times to the quarter hour, five minutes and to the minute.
- Identifying certain and impossible chance events.
- Identifying likely and unlikely chance events.
- Writing digital times.
- Matching analogue and digital times.
- Identifying, describing and naming three-dimensional objects.
- Using a calculator for multiplication and division.
In Inquiry students will be learning about Geography through:
- Studying the Countries and Places of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their connection to Country.
- Describing the cultural diversity of groups of First Nation peoples and how this forms cultural identity.
- Identifying and describing the characteristics of places in different locations.
- Locating Australia’s neighbouring countries on a map.
Wellbeing:
We will be using the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy.
Students will engage in lessons looking at:
- Help-seeking
- Gener norms and stereotypes
- Positive gender relations
There will be a continued focus on our SWPBS Expectations as outlined in our whole school matrix.
