Honor Society Advisor of the Year Credits ā€˜Culture of Collaboration’

Lauren Huffman has been committed to student success for over 15 years, and now is awarded advisor of the year due to her academic support

Lauren Huffman, a long-time advocate for student success at Āé¶¹¹ū¶³, has been named Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) . According to its website, is a certified national honor society that recognizes academic excellence in the first year at a college or university.

The award presented to Huffman, academic advisor and coordinator II of advising in Kent State’s Honors College, reflects a 15-year commitment to higher education student success and academic support roles. 

Huffman’s involvement in Alpha Lambda Delta began during her own undergraduate experience.  

ā€œMy connection to ALD began as a student leader, an experience that shaped my belief in the value of honor societies for fostering community and academic confidence,ā€ she told Kent State Today. ā€œServing now as an advisor feels like coming full circle, and I am grateful to Āé¶¹¹ū¶³ and the Honors College for supporting this work as part of my role.ā€

Benny Miller, a senior middle childhood education major and current Alpha Lambda Delta membership co-chair, highlights Huffman’s commitment to Alpha Lambda Delta and her students.

ā€œShe's helped me navigate through some of the hardships that we've gone through, and she's been there alongside me for the good times too,ā€ Miller said. ā€œShe's helped shape me into a better person professionally and socially.ā€

As an Alpha Lambda Delta advisor, Huffman assists members in developing leadership skills, engaging in service and building a supportive academic community.

ā€œThis recognition motivates me to continue collaborating with ALD headquarters to support students and student leaders,ā€ she said. ā€œI want to expand pathways for students to apply those skills in meaningful ways.ā€ 

Alexander Miller, a 2025 graduate from Kent State with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual communication design and a former Alpha Lambda Delta vice president, reflected on his time working alongside Huffman and credited her work. 

ā€œALD is a really welcoming community,ā€ Alex Miller said. ā€œLauren really adds to the aspect of being so welcoming. She’s just a friendly face who can talk to anyone.ā€ 

Huffman credits Kent State’s culture of collaboration for the success of the university’s chapter. 

ā€œALD thrives at Āé¶¹¹ū¶³ because faculty, staff and students share a commitment to supporting student success and creating opportunities for students to lead with confidence,ā€ Huffman said.
