Visual arts teacher Stephen Tomero and choir director Mary Meese and are among the finalists for the 2022 Stark County Art and Music Educator Awards. Both are alumni of Kent State’s College of the Arts.

The argument for studying journalism has never been stronger. Just a quick glance at the news makes the case. We’re training students who will graduate equipped with strong writing skills – still the number one most important skill set according to all employers with whom I interact; technical skills to communicate using whatever equipment, software and tools are available; and the ethical decision-making skills necessary to function in a world where decisions are rarely cut and dry.

Catherine Meredith and Alice Blumenfeld Receive Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards

Earl K. Miller, Ph.D., and Marlene M. Wicherski Pledge $2 Million to Support Brain Health Research at Kent State

�鶹���� alumnus Earl K. Miller, Ph.D., and his wife, Marlene M. Wicherski, have pledged $2 million to support research programs and students in Kent State’s Brain Health Research Institute. The Brain Health Research Institute is a recently established, cross-disciplinary institute that focuses on research and education of brain health across the lifespan.

Journalism Grad Develops Niche of Writing �鶹���� Comics

A �鶹���� alumnus has found a unique way to combine his passions and career after graduation. Nicholas Hunter, a 2020 Kent State graduate, recently discovered a way to combine two passions uncovered during his time at Kent State: writing and comic books.

Kent State Graduate Elected President of American Institute of Architecture Students

Kent State alumnus Cooper Moore, '21, was recently elected the President of the Board of Directors for the American Institute of Architecture Students after graduating in the fall. As president, Moore will lead the board during discussions and decisions. His other responsibilities include helping run the organization, marketing and carrying out the organization’s strategic plan. He will serve for a one year term in Washington, D.C.

Student Researcher Identifies Potential Alternative to Antibiotics

During a summer research project at Kent State Geauga, nursing student Lauren Petrick succeeded in isolating a bacterial virus that shows promise as an alternative to antibiotics in fighting off intestinal bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, GI tract infections and even pneumonia. By teaming up with Kent State Geauga Associate Professor Sanhita Gupta, Petrick tackled this problem through �鶹����’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) last summer.
