What’s happening in Italian in Term 1 2024

FOUNDATION:

Ciao e Benvenuti! (Hello and Welcome!) to learning Italiano at 鶹 Primary School! In Term 1, Foundation students will be introduced to the Italian language and culture by participating in weekly Italian classes. Through stories, games and songs students will be learning how to say and respond to simple greetings and how to introduce themselves in Italian. Students will also be learning the numbers 1-10 and how to say the colours in Italian. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1 with the Foundation students!

GRADE 1:

Ciao e Bentornati! (Hello and welcome back!) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 1 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me). Students will then begin a unit, Carnevale. Students will listen to stories and learn about this colourful festival which is celebrated yearly in Italy. Students will learn about the characters of Carnevale, and they will choose a character to describe in Italian using modelled sentences. Through this topic, students will continue to develop their knowledge of greetings and colours. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1!

GRADE 2:

Ciao e Bentornati! (Hello and welcome back!) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 2 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me). Students will then begin a unit, Carnevale. Students will listen to stories and learn about this colourful festival which is celebrated yearly in Italy. Students will learn about the characters of Carnevale, and they will choose a character to describe in Italian using modelled sentences. Through this topic, students will continue to develop their knowledge of greetings and colours. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1!

GRADE 3:

Ciao e bentornati (Hello and welcome back!) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 3 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me). The focus for this term will be using Italian to communicate and interact with each other. Students will work in pairs to ask and respond to simple questions about themselves and their interests. Students will have the opportunity to present these to the class. Throughout the term numbers, colours and greetings will continue to be revised. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1!

GRADE 4:

Ciao e bentornati (Hello and welcome back!) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 4 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me). The focus for this term will be using Italian to communicate and interact with each other. Students will work in pairs to ask and respond to simple questions about themselves and their interests. Students will have the opportunity to present these to the class. Throughout the term numbers, colours and greetings will continue to be revised. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1!

GRADE 5/6:

Ciao e bentornati (Hello and welcome back) to Italiano classes! In Term 1, Grade 5 and 6 students will commence the term by creating a poster, ‘Tutto su di me’ (All About Me). Students will then move onto exploring the language needed to describe and give information about themselves. With this information, students will then create their own character in Italian. Students will create a written text and use sentence starters such as “Sono…” (I am…) and “Ho…” (I have…) to describe their character. Looking forward to a ‘fantastico’ Term 1!
