In Literacy students will be:
- Investigating Latin Etymology (the study of where words come from)
- Identifying the meaning of morphemes in words (e.g. ex = out, port = carry. Therefore, export means to carry out
- Plan a narrative using picture prompts and incorporating story grammar elements
- Identify concrete and abstract nouns and use these to enhance their writing
- Upgrade speaking and action verbs in their writing
- Identify run on sentences and state whether they are complete or incomplete.
- Engaging in the text of ‘King Arthur’, where they will discover the Middle Ages and the Arthurian legends that have changed over time
- Using maps to identify why we use maps and how this has changed over time
- Exploring mountains around the world and how they have evolved over time
In Mathematics students will be:
- Engaging in a daily review of concepts that have been taught during the term and in previous years
- Adding and subtracting using a range of strategies such as; compensation and vertical algorithm.
- Calculating the finish and start time to the closest hour and moving to the closest 5 minute
- Identifying and representing halves, quarters, thirds, fifths and tenths of shapes and collections
- Solving addition and subtraction worded problems using rich tasks
- Converting mixed numerals to proper fractions and proper fractions to mixed numerals
- Ordering mixed numerals on a number line
- Converting between units of time to solve problems
- Learning multiplication and divisions facts for threes, fours, sixes, sevens and eights
- Measuring, comparing and ordering length in metric units
- Measuring the perimeter of shapes
In Inquiry students will be:
Investigating our digital world, where the students will understand the differences between bullying and cyberbullying. Students will understand the roles of those involved in bullying and the effects bullying has on those involved. They will begin to develop strategies for reporting bullying situations and preventing further incidents of bullying. Emphasis will be placed on how to respect yourself, respect others, respect content and respect equipment. Students will learn through the exploration of open-ended questions, hands-on tasks and interactive videos and websites.
Wellbeing
We will be using the Respectful Relationships program to focus on emotional literacy and personal and cultural strengths.
Students will engage in lessons looking at:
- What do emotions look like
- Emotional triggers
- Emotions across the school day
- How we use personal and cultural strengths
- Respect for people
- Respect for country
- Using strengths to grow respect
- Using our strengths in different situations
- Respect for diversity
We will also be engaging in lessons using smiling minds, practising meditation techniques and building a range of strategies to bring mindfulness into their lives.
