In April 2019, �鶹���� welcomed Neil Cooper, Ph.D, as the new inaugural director of Kent State's School of Peace and Conflict Studies. The School of Peace and Conflict Studies was originally called the Center for Peaceful Change when it was founded in 1971 as the university's first ‘living memorial’ for the events that occurred on May 4th, 1970.

Kent State Graduate Taylor Pendrith, ‘14, earned the Canada Life Candian Player of the Year honors on the Mackenzie Tour -- PGA TOUR Canada on Sunday, Sept. 15. This is Pendrith’s second time receiving the honor in the past four years.

The pathway from a two-year college to �鶹���� will soon become an easier road to travel for Ohio students, thanks to a grant awarded to Kent State to collaborate with three Ohio community colleges to streamline the transfer process.

What do you do if a student in class or at work starts showing up distracted, less talkative or stops showing up at all? Ignore it? Ask about it? But how do you start that conversation?

More than 20,000 people applied to be part of Kent State’s Class of 2023, and 4,270 can now consider themselves to be Golden Flashes.

When �鶹���� alumnus Eric Meek is not working in a glass art studio, one may find him on the small screen sharing his expertise in the new Netflix series called “Blown Away.”

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the �鶹���� fight song blared down Main Street, the city of Kent was flooded with blue and gold, alumni and friends gathered and reminisced about their Kent State days, fans packed the stadium to cheer on their beloved Golden Flashes and the entire campus boomed with Kent State pride.

On the morning of May 4, 1970, �鶹���� student Howard Ruffner was hanging out in the office of the Daily Kent Stater in Taylor Hall when the phone rang.

The Midwest editor from Life magazine, based in Chicago, was calling to find out if there were any student photographers who had been taking photos over the weekend. Kent State had been the scene of student protests for several days, and more demonstrations were expected that day.  

�鶹����’s nationally ranked Flight Technology program, in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, is one of only three nationwide that Delta Air Lines selected this year to become a Delta Propel Partner, a program that creates career opportunities for students studying to be future commercial pilots.

�鶹����’s long-standing relationship with the Tuscarawas County University Branch District to administer the Tuscarawas Campus of Kent State will continue through June 30, 2030, in a new 10-year agreement approved by the Kent State Board of Trustees.

Almost 50 years ago, the shootings of �鶹���� students by the Ohio National Guard brought to a head the cultural divides that had split the nation. The �鶹���� Museum’s exhibition, “Culture/Counterculture: Fashions of the 1960s and ’70s,” opening Sept. 20, explores the sharp contrast between supporters of the establishment and those opposed.

Cross-departmental collaborations are what Michael Lehman, the inaugural director of �鶹����’s Brain Health Research Institute, envisions for the future. His goal is to unite researchers from a wide range of disciplines at Kent State and throughout Northeast Ohio to explore, expand and advance our knowledge of the human brain and how it functions.

The �鶹���� Alumni Association is proud to announce its 2019 Alumni Award recipients. Recipients are chosen based on their exceptional contributions in their chosen profession, in their communities and at Kent State.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at �鶹���� Geauga Campus is a rigorous academic environment that requires serious discipline, study, practice, and testing. It’s also an intimate environment of friends, instructors, and mentors who support each other from one challenge to the next, and inspire one another to reach out for the benefit of others. As a student association, they give back to the community through fundraising, strengthening the nursing program for future students and charitable outreach throughout the region.

�鶹����’s new FedEx Aeronautics Academic Center provides a world-class training ground to help aviation students and future pilots soar to even greater achievements.

�鶹���� jazz ensembles instructor, Christopher J. Coles aspires to evoke emotions and conversations surrounding topics like social injustice and race through the display. “Nine Lives Project” has been viewed at workshops throughout Cleveland, Canada, and most recently broadcast in a Shuffle session with WKSU.

President Diacon says he plans to bring his prior experience to his new role and vision as president, he recently told Crain’s Cleveland Business.

A three-day trip is underway for �鶹���� students to work with community leaders on finding new and creative ways to connect neighborhoods throughout Erie to its Bayfront, according to YourErie.com

Angela Neal-Barnett, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, says there is a stressful expectation for black women in corporate America to financially provide for their family.

Last year, �鶹���� celebrated 100 years of Homecoming. This year, the university starts the next century of Kent State Homecoming celebrations with a new president leading the institution.
